My personal Ron Paul education

I first learned about Ron Paul in or around the year 2000 when I was reading federal bills that had not yet been voted on in congress. I was reading through each bill and writing my congress critter with my opinions on each one. There were a slew of really bad bills, a bunch of confusing ones, and a small number of good ones. Of the good ones, the ones that would have made the biggest improvements in my opinion would have repealed unconstitutional "laws". These bills were all sponsored by Congressman Ron Paul of Texas. I was so intrigued that I looked up all of the bills that he was on record for sponsoring. I was amazed that there was a Congressman who consistently upheld the Constitution of the United States, a Constitution for which I had risked getting an Article 15 by speaking out against an unlawful order by my 1SG when most of my squadron told me to just go along with it. (Fortunately I had a pocket constitution in my pocket when the order was given and was able to articulate the reasons why the order should be rescinded.) I was (and still am) passionate about honoring my oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." After reading all of the bills that came up as having been sponsored by Congressman Ron Paul, I wrote my congresscritters and asked them to cosponsor all of his bills. For some reason I never got a response. After that I occasionally read Ron Paul's bills when I had the time. This January I got an email that rumored that Ron Paul was considering a run for the White House. I was so excited that I jumped out of my chair and started jumping around the room yelling "yes!, yes!" and thinking "Ron Paul would make an awesome president." Before learning of Ron Paul's potential bid, I was undecided about who I would support and felt that some of the candidates would be an improvement over George W. Bush, but I wasn't really enthusiastic about any of them. In February I went to listen to Ron Paul speak twice, once at a house party in his honor, and the other time at the NH Liberty Forum. Each time I heard him speak, my support for him grew stronger. His principles closely match mine in that we both believe that the best way to have peace, prosperity and liberty is for the government to comply with the Constitution, something it hasn't done in many years. It appears that our country is going downhill fast due to government oppression of liberty, excessive wasteful spending and overly heavy taxation. I think that Ron Paul is probably our last chance to restore our country to a constitutional republic without resorting to a violent revolution. I dislike violence and prefer to have a peaceful revolution of ideas. I do not want to fight with guns and other weapons, so I will continue to work to achieve a peaceful revolution to restore the Constitution led by President Ron Paul.

New political positions and this Saturday's election

Recently I was re-elected to the board of the Strafford County Republican Committee and at the same time was elected to the NH Republican Committee. A few weeks later I was nominated, and then elected, to the position of Vice Chairman of the Strafford County Republican Committee. Over the past few months, several members of the Board of Directors of Gun Owners of New Hampshire have asked me to run for a position on the board. At the last meeting, I was asked again by four members, so I told them that if they wanted me to run for a position on the board, I would be willing to do so. I was nominated and asked if I would be willing to work on the newsletter. I agreed to help with it, and will be going to my first meeting of committee that works on the newsletter this Saturday. This Saturday I will be participating in the election to choose who will run the NH Republicn party. It will be a difficult decision for me to choose whom to vote for in the election for the highest position in the NH Republican party because there are at least two excellent candidates running for that position, including Fergus Cullen and Fran Wendelboe. Fergus is a really nice guy who has a lot of energy and ambition, while Fran is a wonderful lady who has experience in the NH House of Representatives and an excellent voting record. I believe that they both have the character needed for such a position, and I would be happy if either of them won. The other candidates, unfortunately, I know little about.

Lost state rep race

As some of you know already, I didn't win the election for State Rep in 2006. You win some and you lose some. Despite the results of the last election, I will continue working to defend civil liberties.

Campaign signs

I have noticed that some of my opponents have been posting their signs on public property. I will not do likewise and ask that nobody else post my signs on public property. Yesterday a friend of mine told me that someone stole the signs off his yard (including one of mine). He is a Democrat, but he seems to be more open minded and sensible than most. I have not been posting a lot of signs because I was short on wire sign holders. An order was placed and I should be getting some this week so that all of my signs will have holders. If you want one of my signs in your yard, please let me know, and I will try to get one to you.

New Hampshire Republicans - More freedom, less taxes

I have read that NH has the lowest tax burden per capita of all the states. It is because of Republicans and libertarians in NH that we hold that title, but I believe we still have a lot we can do to reduce the tax burden that is placed on NH residents.

I have read that NH has among the most reasonable of gun laws. It is because of Republicans and libertarians in NH that we maintain more of our right to keep and bear arms than most, if not all of the other states, but I believe that as long as NH law prohibits hunters from using some types of hearing protection devices and law abiding citizens are required to get permission in order to carry a loaded firearm in their vehicle or concealed upon their person, there is more legislation that needs to be repealed.

I believe that NH has some of the best Republicans in the country. NH Republicans vote for freedom far more often than Republicans in other states. I have heard people say that Democrats and Republicans are all the same, and can’t be trusted. That may be true in many other states, like NY, where mere possession of a new 12 round magazine is a felony (Sec.265.02), but in NH, most of our Republicans stand for freedom from government sponsored tyranny.

Relative to the rest of the United States we may be a free state, but in order to be truly free, we need to persevere and never stop working to restore the freedoms that have been taken from us, and we must persevere to reduce the burden that is placed on us by an overgrown and often oppressive government.

When I joined the US Army, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I have honored that oath, even when threatened with punishment for defending it against an unlawful order from a senior NCO, and will continue to honor it until I die. If you do not know what is in the Constitution and its Bill of Rights, I strongly encourage you to get a copy and read it. The Constitution and its Bill of Rights are the supreme law of the land, and any politician who submits or votes for legislation that is contrary to it, is in violation of the law, and must be removed from office, as required by RSA 92:2.

If you are a resident of Somersworth or Rollinsford, I would like your vote and your support. If I am elected, I would like your input and feedback concerning legislation.

For the 2008 presidential race, I can think of no better candidate than Congressman Ron Paul. Other candidates who I might vote for if they make it through the primary include Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Tom Tancredo. John McCain-Feingold will not get my vote. I haven't seen a Democrat candidate for president whom I could support.

Campaign promises

As a personal principle, I don't make promises that I am not confident that I can and will keep, so I'm going to keep my list of campaign promises fairly simple and limit it to things that I alone have complete control over.
I promise that I will honor my oath of office.
I promise that I will support personal property rights.
I promise that I will support and defend the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
I promise that I will oppose any bill that bans the possession of pocket knives.
I promise that I will oppose any bill that prohibits someone from covering or concealing any part of their face.
I'll add more as they come to me.
